The Therapy Process
YOUR INITIAL THERAPY SESSION IS DESIGNED WITH TWO MAIN GOALS IN MIND:
1. Assess Your Circumstances
During your first session, you and your therapist will focus on understanding your current situation. While your therapist’s expertise aligns with the reasons you’re seeking therapy, you and your therapist will explore the specific aspects of your life that are unique to you. This assessment helps us determine the most suitable therapy approach, including what it will involve and how it will fit into your daily life. Additionally, the therapist may suggest activities for you to work on between sessions, such as practicing particular techniques or reading recommended materials. Active participation in your healing process is crucial for your progress.
2. Build a Relationship
Your first meeting will function as a mutual exploration. Your therapist will ask questions to gain insight into your primary concerns, life history, family background, and career experiences. In turn, you will have the opportunity to learn more about your therapist and how he/she works. Establishing a supportive and honest client-therapist relationship is essential for successful therapy. The quality of the connection with your therapist greatly influences the effectiveness of your treatment and the achievement of your goals.
